SSar's Beast
We are 95% moved. I need to poke my previous landlords about our bond. I showed up to my previous home on Saturday to let professional cleaners in; paint tins & paraphernalia were still everywhere, and I had a moment of absurdity and a glorious sense of Not My Problem. Now we have cleaned, and professional cleaners have cleaned, and nothing there is my problem. Note to self: send landlady a gift basket when this is all sorted. She was a pretty good landlady.

I'm feeling a bit anxious and overcommitted. One of the signs of this, to myself, is that I'm putting my hand up for as many things as I can. Yes. That is counterproductive. It's just, I don't know what it's like to not have commitments, I will always have commitments - and I hate the feeling of having unstructured time, with necessary but non-urgent tasks buzzing around my head like flies. When that happens, I panic. I turn in circles on the carpet. I'd rather have one urgent thing to do than five non-urgent things to do, even if the former claims sleep and social time. So stress means "go find something even more urgent to do, to quiet anxiety while your brain is focused".

So, maybe it was a bit silly to sidle up to J & L at A & H's housewarming party this weekend and say "So, your new campaign LARP, do you need a cook for that?" ...♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ but yesss: once again, I will get to go away for a weekend every six months again and COOK NON-STOP for a day and a half at a time, and hear the stories of LARPers, and be involved in their glorious festival of creativity!

I am so happy to get to do that again.

A & H's housewarming was nice and their house was MAGNIFICENT, and going from the Sunday round of house-hunting to that party was like going to the supermarket when you're really really hungry. H has expended SO much effort on her house. She is a super-talented super-hardworking person with a doctorate in drama and extensive experience in dramatic set design: her house looks phenomenal. Those houses in magazines? At least one of them exists. A & H live in it.

(meanwhile: I did not visit this house, but I am rather struck by the carpet in picture 7. Is it just me, or is it - entirely - decapitated giraffes?? You tell me.)

my roommate literally goes out to larping conventions only to run a tavern. there are several similarly-minded people and they bonded to, like, chop onions all day long and serve all and sundry elves and whatnot coming and going, and sing tavern songs. it makes her INCREDIBLY HAPPY.

happy larping tiems to you! :D

Oh excellent!

I'm a little different, because I don't like playing a character at all, but I can see how it would be a lot of fun to play a low-plot character whose in- and out-of-character roles dovetail so nicely. No interpersonal drama, just singing. Nice work if you can get it!

(Though, ha, onions. I like cooking with onions too, but I don't want to subject my helpers (especially my helpers with elaborate facial cosmetics) to onion-chopping, so I traditionally spend the whole Friday evening creating a CAULDRON's worth of chopped onions.)

It's like a working bee with your friends and very nice scenery and ludicrous stories. It's great. Happy larping times to your roommate too!

That is kind of awesome, ngl.

I have very little motivation to do elaborate baking when I'm living by myself. Only I will eat the food! Thus when I am with family I embark on ALL the ambitious projects.

That...is quite like decapitated giraffes. I was all like, no way, while opening the photographs but...yeah. That is quite, quite giraffe like.

Moving! So stressful! Aw, hope stuff clears up and you aren't as stressed out soon.

Thanks! Most of the moving INTO this place is done - I just have to do unfuck-your-habitat-style sprints to figure out how to tidily squash in, or dispose of, all the things we don't really have room for now.

I wouldn't mislead you about decapitated giraffe decor. :P

"A & H's housewarming was nice and their house was MAGNIFICENT"
I know. I went in and it was like, wait, real people live like this? I thought houses this beautiful only existed in magazines...

(Good luck with the house hunting.)

Thank you! How are you?

(I mean, even without seeing it, I'd believe of H that her house would look like a beautiful TV set. But it's still strange to see something that perfect in real life.)

I'm pretty tired right now, to be honest. (But treading water, and hopefully next week will be better.)

I hope the last 5% of the move goes OK.

Thanks, that's kind of you.

Is there anything I can do? I'm a pretty good cleaner in 2-3 hour bursts, and I can provide packaged meals.
