Yuletide gifts
SSar's Beast
morbane
So, this Yuletide - I got nine gifts - covering all of my five fandoms and a bonus fandom - across the main and the Madness collections. Wow.

Wow.

Counterweight (4175 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chalice - Robin McKinley
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Talisman - Character, Mirasol, Liapnir, The Grand Seneschal
Summary: The House was not a labyrinth. It was large, it was dark, it contained much. Not all of what it contained was simple to discover. But for all the heaviness of the stone walls and the endless cold narrowness of the stone halls, the lines of the place fell one by one in ordered design, and at the center there was nothing at all.

For many, Talisman thought, it was also easy to leave.

-This is a careful, cautious unfolding of Talisman's view of the story, from her naiveté before she took up her Bloodright position to her isolation during the rule of both Liapnir's brother and Liapnir. It's kind of sad but very plausible to see how cut off Talisman was as well; I can see a sort of spider web of (some of) the Circle members reaching out to each other - sometimes making contact, sometimes not.

Also, I really love this book - it's one of McKinley's lighter fantasies, but it has a nice voice and interesting magic - and I think my mystery author likes a lot of the same things I do about it.

when you bring the house down (1260 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: I Feel Possessed - Crowded House (Song)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Additional Tags: Ghosts, Ghost Sex, Threesome - F/F/M, Yuletide Treat
Summary: "People are strange, God only knows."

-Another multi-year request, filled! The story, to me, is about intimacy - strangers and strange things coming close and then sliding into your life in ways that are enriching and terrifying; more ordinary ways of keeping a sense of self in the midst of relationships and challenges; how to keep hold and how to let go. Sometimes uncomfortable, but the ending is warm.

Happily Ever After(1219 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Kisa the Cat (Brown Fairy Book - Andrew Lang)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: Kisa's mother never broke her curse. Kisa comes to understand why.

-A wistful but plausible tale of self-sacrifice that manages to redeem the curse a little, and I enjoy that flip of perspective. Also, it conveys a lovely sense of tenderness between Ingibjorg and Kisa.

A Day at the Races (772 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dragonriders of Pern - Anne McCaffrey
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: B'lerion/Oklina
Characters: Oklina, Hannath, Alessan (Dragonriders of Pern), B'lerion
Additional Tags: Post-Canon
Summary:

The races held at Ruatha's Gathers are always memorable events...

-This is a post-canon snippet that feels pleasantly solid, although it is Madness-sized. Moreta's namesake turns out to have plenty of spirit - but we would expect no less. I also enjoyed the sense that Oklina is settled into her current life; this fic showed the ongoing strength of her relationships with Hannath, B'lerion, and Alessan.

A Cat's Life (4068 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Kisa the Cat (Brown Fairy Book - Andrew Lang)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Kisa the Cat & Asa the Cat, Asa the Cat & Mother Gothel, Kisa the Cat & Ingibjorg
Characters: Kisa the Cat - Character, Asa the Cat (Kisa’s Mother - semi-OFC), Ingibjorg, Puss in Boots, Snow White’s Mother, Mother Gothel
Additional Tags: back story, Making Restitution, All Fairy Tales Happen In The Same Continuity, polymorph, Misses Clause Challenge
Summary: When you mess up, sometimes making it right can take a long time. Even longer when you're a cat.

-Kisa's mother's complete lack of repentance here - and the many places this leads her - is both funny and poignant. I really liked the intersection with the Rapunzel tale, which is one of my favourite fairy tales anyway, and the sad-but-right ending. (The sadness is worth it.)

Roses Underfoot (1033 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Maleficent/Aurora
Characters: Maleficent
Additional Tags: Dubious Consent, Obsession, Fantasy, Monologue
Summary: Maleficent has plans. And sometimes the best plans are the ones you tell yourself.

-Very lush and dark; this is very much Maleficent's story, for she believes she is entitled to everything (the world is almost too small), and toys with the idea of Aurora as a set of objects, treasures, triumphs. Lovely metaphors.

Заткнись (319 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Danger 5
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Ilsa (Danger 5), Tucker (Danger 5), Jackson (Danger 5), Pierre (Danger 5), Claire (Danger 5), Alligator Artillery
Summary: The Fic Was Written with the Power of Google Translate and Sleep Deprivation

-Don't let that summary put you off! Consider it merely bracing. Danger 5 returns to TV in a few days; this and my next gift are an excellent refresher. Or an excellent introduction. It is okay, the correct experience, in fact, if you don't know what's going on. But what is going on here is some daring action against weaponised reptiles. Also, banter.

The Furried Frenzy of the Fuhrer (1115 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Danger 5
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death
Characters: Tucker (Danger 5), Ilsa (Danger 5), Jackson (Danger 5), Pierre (Danger 5), Claire (Danger 5), Adolf Hitler (Danger 5)
Summary: An American national treasure is threatened by the Nazis. Good thing Danger 5 is on the case.

-And if that was an introduction, this is a full episode-style caper. For meeeeeeee. (Well, maybe also for seekingferret, since he claims all Danger 5 fic is for him.) Very witty. Very weird. Wild and wonderful. Also, there is Ilsa being Ilsa. Oh do I love Ilsa. (No, kiss me, Ilsa.)

A Kisa in the Night (100 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Kisa the Cat (Brown Fairy Book - Andrew Lang)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kisa/Ingibjorg
Additional Tags: yumadrin, Drabble
Summary: Oh, a bat can see
and a cat can see
and I can see things too.

--In the Dark

-A sleek drabble suggesting what changed in Kisa and Ingibjorg's childhood relationship - and what might yet change further.

Thank you very much, my authors! This is actually a bit overwhelming. I hope you really enjoyed writing these things. And I hope everyone else enjoys reading them too.

Hahaha that's awesome! I mean, I'm sure you'd be happy with 9 fics in 1 fandom, but this is a great allocation ;)
